I would describe my mind as calm and independent. I’m attracted to subtlety, tranquility, the ocean, rhythm, light and beauty. I express my moods within my work by abstracting form, movement, color, light and pattern from nature. I strive to capture a reflective moment, a feeling, an essence of the way nature in particular can make you feel. I am intently aware of my surroundings and am in awe of the smallest natural wonder to the expanse of deep blue sky that I often wake to in NYC. I strive to capture calmness, to provide the viewer a feeling of peace, in what can be a difficult and troubled world both socially and politically. When I am creating in my studio I am following my instinct and not thinking too much about the action my hand is taking. Painting is a reaction and I have to react without thought. It’s the most wonderful feeling because it comes from within and the best part of painting is when the subconscious becomes conscious. I observe scenes and details from nature and then the painting takes me on a journey into the unknown. One of my first buyers told me that my work makes him ‘feel’. What more can I ask? |
